Preserving Our Natural Beauty
The Garden's commitment to the community is to advance excellence in education, research, exhibition and conservation of desert plants of the world with emphasis on the Southwestern United States.
Since 1939, the Desert Botanical Garden strives to educate its visitors on preserving and living in harmony with the desert. The Garden is here to help you enjoy the beauty of the desert and care about it. Located in the heart of the City of Phoenix, millions of guests have enjoyed casual strolls and guided tours through the scenic trails, which display more than 50,000 Sonoran Desert plants.
T.W. Lewis Foundation Support
Because of their mission to preserve and care for our desert, the T.W. Lewis Foundation proudly supports the Desert Botanical Garden. Together we have been able to create new plant exhibits for visitors to enjoy, acquire a beautiful sculpture by renowned artist, Dale Chihuly, and provide meaningful horticultural education. Our latest project is the new Jan and Tom Lewis Desert Portal which opened in January of 2015. The Lewis Desert Portal is an extensive plant exhibit with an inspiring trellis that is surrounded by mountain views.
"The entire field trip was wonderful from start to finish. Not only were the guides great with our students but all along the trails they took the time to teach us about living in a desert region and the animals and plants that share the desert with us."
